I went to an orientation event today. A tour of Bierbrier (beer maker in german) microbrewery in old montreal. Charles Bierbrier was a business major at McGill and got his MBA at Concordia (the other English univerisity in town), and was always a home brewer. About a year ago he opened his microbrewery, and I mean it when I say micro. They have only 2 fermentors and malt kettle and a brew kettle (i'm not sure about those names, but yeah, small). They only make one variety of beer: a golden ale. It's pretty tasty. Kinda a versatile beer.
Although, I'm still very unfamiliar with the brewery scene here, I'm starting to see that Montreal is a great place for beer. There's of course huge companies like Molson, Labatt's, and Boreale up here, but also larger microbreweries, such as Unibroure (Le Fin du Monde (end of the world)) and Maclausin's (incredible oatmeal stout). The brewpub is a popular institution too. I'll have to keep updating on this topic... |
